CURRENT RECORD

Protocol KAWAII is a three-member Japanese performance group consisting of SAKURA, Mei & Hina.
Depending on what reaches us, they can resemble an aggressively polished J-pop idol unit, a punk band, an electronic project, three fashion models, a weapons platform or something considerably harder to categorise.
They describe themselves simply as:
PROTOCOL KAWAII.
Burn-Ego has limited contact with them.
We do not know their present physical location.
Material attributed to 'PK' reaches Burn-Ego through a changing network of anonymous accounts, temporary servers, encrypted transfers and third-party contacts.
When it can be reasonably authenticated, we transmit it.
That is the arrangement.
As far as we understand it.

ORIGIN THEORY

Reliable material from Protocol KAWAII's original career is strangely difficult to obtain.
Contemporary references indicate that Mei, Hina and Sakura were already established young performers and were attracting significant attention before their disappearance from public life. Very little of that material remains accessible.
Official accounts are gone. Promotional pages return errors or redirect elsewhere. Performance footage has been removed from most major platforms. Image searches frequently lead to dead links, deleted mirrors or unattributed copies stripped of their original context.
Whether this represents ordinary corporate rights management, deliberate reputation control or something more sinister is unclear.
Burn-Ego has recovered fragments. Low-resolution clips. Screenshots. Old promotional images. Cached text.Fan recollections.
Enough to establish that Protocol KAWAII existed publicly long before their current transmissions began.
Not enough to reconstruct exactly what that existence looked like.
Someone appears to have worked very hard to make sure of that.

SIGNAL PROFILE

Usually the smallest person in the room.

Frequently the loudest.

Mei's transmissions disproportionately involve sweets, rabbits, fashion, occult diagrams, abandoned buildings, ritual objects and statements which become considerably more disturbing if taken literally.

She appears to have developed an extensive interest in occult, esoteric and mediumistic practices since the incident.

Whether this represents philosophy, performance art, recreational obsession or an actual attempt to communicate with the dead remains unclear.

Mei appears satisfied with this ambiguity.

  • Extremely low tolerance for authority.

Hina appears to have undergone the most obvious philosophical shift since PK's disappearance.

She has repeatedly rejected descriptions of the group as “formerly human”, “augmented humans” or “machines”.

Her preferred explanation appears to be that the distinction was incorrect from the beginning.

This position has occasionally been accompanied by demonstrations of physical capability that make further debate inadvisable.

Sakura remains the group's most conventional public communicator and consistently rejects the more dramatic interpretations surrounding the accident.

As far as she is concerned, she suffered catastrophic injuries and recovered.

That is all.

She regards speculation that she is a copy, reconstruction or replacement consciousness as unsupported and generally irritating.

She also appears to regard approximately half of Mei's current interests as nonsense.

The feeling does not seem mutual.

THE INCIDENT

STATUS: UNRESOLVED
The circumstances surrounding Protocol KAWAII's disappearance from public life remain the subject of considerable speculation.
What little information survives suggests that an incident occurred shortly before the group's anticipated international debut.
Contemporary reports are fragmentary. Official statements have been withdrawn, archived accounts contradict one another, and much of the material once associated with the group is no longer accessible.
Mei, Hina and Sakura have occasionally alluded to the incident in their subsequent transmissions, although their individual accounts appear to differ considerably.
Burn-Ego has received no formal explanation from the group.
We have also been unable to establish why so much of their earlier public record has disappeared, or whether that disappearance is directly connected to the incident itself.
Attempts to obtain clarification have so far been unsuccessful.
The matter remains open.
References to fatalities, experimental medical procedures and an extensive corporate investigation appear repeatedly throughout the surviving record.
None has been independently verified by Burn-Ego.
The three members subsequently resurfaced under circumstances that remain unclear. Their sporadic reappearance, accompanied by significant changes in their public presentation, generated considerable controversy.

CURRENT ACTIVITY

ProtocolKAWAII appear to remain committed to returning to professional performance.

Their present circumstances suggest mixed progress.

Material reaching Burn-Ego has placed them in venues and situations ranging from legitimate live performances to promotional appearances and considerably less identifiable forms of employment.

There are also recurring references to:

  • RAMEN/ ICE CREAM

  • ACCOMMODATION

  • MONEY

and

“A PROPER FUCKING STAGE.”

We have chosen not to investigate several other references.

TRANSMISSION

Burn-Ego does not know where Protocol KAWAII are.

That is probably intentional and mutually beneficial.

We receive material.

We verify what we can.

We transmit it.

If Mei, Hina or Sakura are reading this:

The last file arrived intact.

The image metadata has been removed.

And no, we are not paying the ramen receipt.
