#GOMARU
The Self Is A Temporary Arrangement

Nobody is entirely sure who GOMARU is.
The earliest references appear within fragmented archives connected to a now-defunct Japanese cybernetic and behavioural research programme. Surviving documentation is incomplete, heavily redacted, and frequently contradictory. Some records describe GOMARU as an artist. Others describe a test subject. A HANDFUL IMPLY THAT GOMARU MAY HAVE BEEN AN EMERGENT BY-PRODUCT OF THE RESEARCH ITSELF.
Whatever the truth may be, the identity now known as GOMARU exists primarily through its
transmissions.
Audio fragments.
Visual artefacts.
Short films.
Glitches in the archive.
Unlike REKursiv NEMO,
GOMARU is not a fixed character. The identity is transferable.
It moves freely between bodies, voices, faces and forms.
Any image associated with GOMARU should be considered provisional.
The map is not the territory.
The face is not the signal.
The signal is GOMARU.

Origins

Several recovered documents suggest a connection between GOMARU and a shadowy Japanese research organisation operating somewhere between behavioural science, cybernetics, advertising psychology, artificial intelligence and mass media engineering.
The same organisation is believed to have developed the early systems that would eventually evolve into Protocol KAWAII.

Methods

GOMARU works through recombination.
Fragments of forgotten media.
Public domain detritus.
Broken cultural artefacts.
Lost broadcasts.
Machine hallucinations.
Human intuition.
The work treats culture itself as raw material.
Images are sampled, recontextualised and folded back into themselves. Music is allowed to mutate. Narratives are abandoned midway through their development. Characters dissolve and reform under different names.
The objective is not self-expression.
The objective is signal extraction.
Patterns hidden beneath the noise.
Meaning hidden beneath repetition.
Emergent structures hidden beneath culture itself.
There are also persistent rumours that some of the technologies tested during these experiments contributed to the emergence of the entity now known as REKursiv NEMO.
Whether GOMARU was a researcher, a participant, a victim, a whistleblower or a side effect remains unknown.
The archive refuses to provide a consistent answer.
The Subject IS INConsistent
ACROSS THE Burn-Ego ECOSYSTEM THERE ARE INDIVIDUALS BELIEVED TO BE AFFECTED BY THE GOMARU CONDITION.
THEIR NAMES RECUR IN PLACES THEY DO NOT REMEMBER VISITING.
THEIR STATEMENTS APPEAR IN RECORDS THEY NEVER CREATED.
FRAGMENTS OF SELF MIGRATE BETWEEN SYSTEMS, NARRATIVES AND TIMELINES.
SOME EVENTUALLY BECOME DIFFICULT TO DISTINGUISH FROM THE TRACES THEY LEAVE BEHIND.
WHAT IS KNOWN IS THAT ONCE GOMARU APPEARS, CERTAINTY RARELY SURVIVES INTACT.

Role Within the MYTHOS

If REKursiv NEMO explores the collapse of the individual, GOMARU explores the collapse of identity.
If NEMO asks:
"Who am I?"
GOMARU asks:
"What if nobody is REAL?"
Within the broader REKursiv MYTHOS, GOMARU is not an observer.
He is the residue.
The leak.
The thing that escapes when an identity can no longer maintain coherence.

CURRENT STATUS

THE SIGNAL REMAINS ACTIVE.
NEW TRANSMISSIONS CONTINUE TO APPEAR WITHOUT WARNING.
SOME ARE RELEASED THROUGH MUSIC.
SOME THROUGH VIDEO.
SOME THROUGH VISUAL ART.
OTHERS EMERGE THROUGH CHANNELS THAT MAY NOT YET EXIST.
IF YOU ENCOUNTER GOMARU IN MULTIPLE FORMS, THIS IS NOT AN ERROR.
IT IS FUNCTIONING AS INTENDED.
THE IDENTITY IS TRANSFERABLE.
THE SIGNAL PERSISTS.
